A Guide to Portland's Beer Scene, By Bike ? Westphoria | A blog by ...

Hop in the Saddle

By Heather Hansman

It doesn?t get more Portland than bikes and craft beer?except, perhaps, putting a bird on it?so it was only a matter of time before someone combined the two.

The PDX staples meet in?Hop in the Saddle?(Sports & Recreation, $10), a guide book that outlines how to tour the city?s best beer by bike (and get a workout along the way). The book is a passion project?funded via a very successful Kickstarter campaign?from three Portland insiders: food writer Lucy Burningham, cycling guidebook author Ellee Thalheimer, and designer Laura Cary.

The trio combined forces to create 10 beer-oriented bike rides, like the hilly Northwest route that passes Deschutes Brewery. You?ll also find reviews of the city?s microbreweries and bars, insider info on the craft beer scene, Portland bike lore, and detailed maps to help you along. The only thing missing is a ride home in case you over-imbibe.

Hop in the Saddle releases on November 15th. If you?re in Portland, they?re having a kick-off party at Velocult. Ride your bike.
