The Redskins Training Camp/Bon Secours/City of Richmond partnership (more details here) is due before the City Council this Monday evening, November 12. The Council will vote on adopting a general resolution in support of the arrangement, while land-use permits and financing will be addressed later.

To express support for an economic development strategy and package with themes of health, fitness, medicine and sports involving properties behind the Science Museum of Virginia, adjacent to Richmond Community Hospital and at the former Westhampton School property and participants including the City, the Washington Redskins and Bon Secours Regional Health System?
Richmond Biz Sense studied the deal in Friday?s story ?Redskins deal offers peek at city?s playbook.? Apparently Walgreen?s was another suitor for the Westhampton School.
While the overall response from Richmonders regarding the arrangement has been positive, a number of Near West End residents have reservations over the way it was handled. A letter from councilman Bruce Tyler (quoted by Richmond Biz Sense) states ?While Bon Secours? desire to purchase the Westhampton School property was well known, Mayor Jones? willingness to negotiate a back-room deal without public knowledge or input is an insult not only to the citizens of the 1st District, but to the entire city.?
And another resident told Near West End News, ?Some of my neighbors and I are concerned about the historic school and would prefer it be an adaptive reuse project instead of being torn down.?
